The Coin
“This item remains elusive. Composite sketch compiled from conflicting eyewitness accounts. Its true appearance remains uncertain.‘

Most who glimpse it mistake it for an ordinary coin, worn smooth by countless hands. It is never found where it was last seen. A merchant discovers it beneath his till. A child uncovers it in the mud after a storm. A king once claimed it had rested beneath his throne for decades, unnoticed until the day his kingdom fell.

No crest has ever been identified upon its face. No scholar can agree what metal it is forged from. Stranger still, no two drawings of the coin have ever matched.

Legend claims the coin cannot be spent. No matter how desperately its owner tries to rid themselves of it, it always returns—sometimes hours later, sometimes years. Only when it has chosen someone new does it disappear for good.

Those who possess it often find their lives transformed. Some rise to unimaginable greatness. Others leave ruin in their wake. Yet no account suggests the coin grants fortune or curses misfortune. Rather, it seems only to reveal what already existed within the one who carried it.

Whether it is a relic of judgment, a forgotten god’s amusement, or something far older than either, no one can say.

Only this is certain:

The coin is never truly lost.

It simply waits to be found.
