The Cloak
“This artifact has been destroyed.”

Few relics are spoken of with more uncertainty than the Cloak of Shadows. Said to have been woven in the ancient kingdom of Arynndor, it granted its bearer the impossible gift of passing unseen between shadows, as though darkness itself welcomed them.

Kings coveted it. Assassins hunted it. Some believed it to be an instrument of justice, allowing its wearer to strike unseen before vanishing without a trace. Others blamed it for countless murders, thefts, and disappearances, claiming the cloak tempted even the noblest soul toward secrecy and deceit.

Its origins have long been forgotten. Some chronicles describe it as a gift bestowed by the gods. Others insist it was crafted by a mage whose name has been erased from history. Whatever the truth, the cloak passed from one owner to another until history could no longer separate fact from folklore.

The oldest surviving account tells of a traveler named Arin who, fearing what the relic might become in the wrong hands, carried it into the forests of Arynndor and destroyed it. Whether he truly succeeded—or whether later generations merely wished to believe such a dangerous thing could be unmade—has never been determined.

Today, the Cloak of Shadows is remembered only through fragmented accounts, contradictory records, and fading legends. Most scholars regard it as little more than a cautionary tale, its true nature buried alongside the age that created it.
